This program will help provide an in-depth discussion and understanding of not only the differences between individuals but also a broad overview of cognitive diversity and the benefits of understanding how it relates to our current workforce, management, operations, and our on-boarding process.

Participants in this one-hour program should be able to walk away with tools to enable them to start or modify its current view of diversity in their current organization.  This program will allow them to review different opportunities and advantages in building awareness of cognitive diversity in their own organization.  We will take a deep dive at the personal, business, and economic benefits that cognitive diversity understanding offers any organization.

The program will review topics such as:

  • Diversity its background and mindset
  • How to train and thinking beyond the legally protected status definition
  • Understanding Cogitative Diversity
  • How to be comfortable with being uncomfortable
  • How to lead with empathy and understanding
  • Exercise on what makes us personally diverse
  • Reviewing our own biases
  • Recruiting outside the normal status quo
  • Encouraging employees to have a voice

Mayela Alvarez is a professional in the human resources, accounting, and general management field.  She has over 10 years’ experience in Human Resource Management and over 20 years in Accounting /Finance profession.  She currently consults under Clear Solutions Consulting Services and also works full-time as the Human Resources Administrator for the YWCA of El Paso del Norte Region.

Mayela holds a MBA in Accounting from University of Phoenix and a B.A. in Accounting from University of Texas at El Paso.  She received her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) credentials in 2009.  She is also currently working on her Masters in Jurisprudence in Labor and Employment Law from Tulane Law University.  She is scheduled to graduate in December of 2019.  Through her 20+ career, Mayela has created a name for rebuilding and developing businesses in the operational, accounting and the human resources realm.  She has successfully revamped companies to a profitable state with improved efficiencies and high employee morale.  Undertaken a non-existent HR department to a full-service department

She is currently a member of: Director of Diversity of Texas SHRM, Past President 2017 EPSHRM and holds a director position at the El Paso Rotary Club.  Previously Workforce Readiness Director for El Paso SHRM.

Past memberships: SAHRMA, Laredo Rotary, FEMAP, El Paso Chamber – FAFSA Committee, and Big Brother Big Sister.
